Development is currently underway for 3D technology to be incorporated into mobile phone handsets and could be with us by the middle of the next decade.
Obviously this would bring a whole new dimension to the mobile phone experience but is dependant upon some quite major technical advances.
It has to be said that this is at a very early stage of development as the feasibility of such platforms is still being worked on. Let’s face it 3D on the big screen is still relatively new from a mass-market perspective let alone small screen compatibility.
Of course without the content 3D mobile is of little use, so the development of both need to go hand in hand.
Having said that there are some major 3D movie releases planned this year including Monsters vs. Aliens, a reinvention of the classic ’50s monster movie directed by Rob Letterman.
It is forecast that during the next 3 years 3D video content and games will become standard issue within the marketplace so transferring the technology to mobile phones shouldn’t be too big a problem.
